Pope Francis passed away on April 21, 2025, at the age of 88. He died in Vatican City after suffering a stroke and heart failure. His passing comes just one day after his final public blessing on Easter Sunday.

Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Argentina, he became the first Latin American pope in 2013. From the beginning, he stood out for his humble lifestyle and strong focus on helping the poor, protecting the environment, and calling for peace and compassion.

Despite health struggles earlier this year, including pneumonia, Pope Francis continued his work with dedication. He will be remembered as a leader who connected deeply with people of all backgrounds, using simple words and actions to bring comfort and hope.

His funeral is expected to take place between April 25 and 27. In a personal request, he asked to be buried in the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, rather than the traditional site at St. Peter’s Basilica. His body will lie in state for public viewing before the funeral.

Pope Francis will be remembered as a kind and courageous leader who spoke for the poor, welcomed outsiders, and urged the world to care for one another. His life was one of deep faith, compassion, and a strong call to unity.
