Actor Devin Harjes, best known for his roles in Boardwalk Empire, Daredevil, and Manifest, has died at the age of 41. Harjes passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2025, at Mount Sinai West hospital in New York City following a battle with cancer, which he was diagnosed with in February, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Born on July 29, 1983, in Lubbock, Texas, Harjes grew up around animals and horses before discovering his passion for acting. He later moved to New York City to pursue a professional acting career, beginning with student films, off-Broadway productions, and independent films.
Harjes gained recognition for portraying legendary boxer Jack Dempsey in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and went on to appear in several popular television shows. He played Oscar, a compassionate nurse at Rikers Island, in Marvel’s Daredevil, and Clyde, a bank guard, in DC’s Gotham. He also appeared in Orange Is the New Black, Blue Bloods, FBI, and Elementary.
His most recent television role was Pete Baylor in season three of NBC’s Manifest, appearing in nine episodes. His film work included roles in Rebel in the Rye, Boyz of Summer, The Forest Is Red, When the Shadow Falls, and Surprise Surprise, Mr. Conovy.
Harjes is remembered by colleagues for his dedication to craft and his quiet but powerful presence on screen.
He is survived by his parents, Randy and Rosanne Harjes; his sister, Trish Harjes, and her husband Justin Kelley; nephews Tristin and Sawyer Kelley; nieces Rory and Charly Kelley; his ex-wife and Gotham actress, Shiva Shobitha; and his beloved cat, Maude.
Harjes’ passing marks a significant loss to the television and theater community, where his nuanced performances and genuine love for the art form left a lasting impression.
